In Meet The Team

This week we feature Jo, Guildhall Operations Manager…

I wake up when..

I hear the repetitive sounds of ‘dada, dada, dada’ from my little boy demanding attention on the baby monitor at about 6am. He’s yet to master ‘mama’ with such enthusiasm- not that it’s a sore subject in our house of course!

 

I’m responsible for…

Making sure that the right people are in the right place to manage the wide variety of events that take place in our building.  I manage the Operations Team of Duty Managers and Event Assistants who look after our clients 7 days a week.  I also look after the upkeep of our venue, managing the ongoing maintenance of a historic building and ensuring that the facilities within it’s walls meet the ever changing needs of the events industry.

 

I got the job…

I stepped into the role of Operations Manager after working as a Duty Manager in the team since 2013.  Prior to that I studied Event Management at Winchester University before working in Event Sales just over the road at the Wessex Hotel.

 

My typical day…

There is no such thing as a ‘typical day’- which is what I love about my role! I could be running a range of  events, working on maintenance projects, holding team meetings, arranging staff training or playing with toilets!

 

The best part of my job…

I feel very privileged to look after such a beautiful historic building and I absolutely love working with a team who share my passion for delivering great events.

 

The most memorable moment at work…

Was a few years ago when I managed a project to restore the faces in the clock tower.  I remember climbing to the top one morning whilst the engineers were onsite and taking a moment to enjoy the beautiful views of our lovely city through open, glass-less clock face.

 

After work…

I collect my little boy from nursery and enjoy some quality time with him before bedtime.  I try to run twice a week but to be honest, more often than not I’m in my pjs and curl up with the cats before it even gets dark!

 

If I didn’t work here I’d…

Love to work in a modern, purpose built event space- complete with top of the range technology, flexible event spaces with moving walls and self stacking chairs (yes, that’s a thing!)
